A black quilted designer-inspired paper candy purse with a silver chain handle and a pocket for a gift card

How to Make Chanel-Inspired Hershey Bar Purse Party Favors

Some party favors are so charming they almost outshine the dessert table. Almost. This black quilted purse-shaped Hershey bar favor brings a little boutique flair to our “Bougie Christmas” party-favor series, and it has a sweet surprise tucked inside.

I made this paper purse with a silver chain handle and a small back pocket for a gift card, and I love how it turned out. It’s a playful way to give guests a chocolate treat with an extra little something. Ready to make your own? Here’s a look at the supplies I used and the steps behind the finished favor.

This handmade favor is designer-inspired and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Chanel. If you create your own version, consider using original artwork and details that make it distinctly yours.

Printed black quilted purse pieces being cut on a green Cricut mat

How I Made the Hershey Bar Purse

This project brings together printing, machine cutting, and a little hands-on assembly. The finished look is all about the details: a crisp black quilted pattern, a sleek silver chain, and a handy pocket for a gift card.

1. Print the Purse Design

I printed my design on Koala matte photo paper using my Epson 8550 printer. The black quilted pattern gives the paper purse its polished, textured look, while the printed details make the pieces feel like a miniature accessory rather than an ordinary candy wrapper.

Before printing a full batch, check that your design is sized for the candy bar and the purse shape you’re making. It’s worth test-fitting one print first (especially if you’re adapting a design) so your chocolate has a comfortable home.

2. Cut the Pieces with a Cricut Maker

Once printed, I placed the design on a Cricut mat and used my Cricut Maker to cut out the pieces. The mat keeps the paper in position while the machine follows the design, giving the purse its crisp edges and shaped flap.

If you’re making several favors, pause after the first cut to check that all the pieces came out cleanly and fit together as expected. A quick test now can save you from discovering a whole stack of almost-right favors later. And “almost right” is not the look we’re going for when the party table is ready for its close-up.

3. Adhere the Pieces Together

I used double-sided tape to adhere the cut pieces together and form the purse. Work neatly and take your time lining up the edges and decorative layers. Small paper projects reward a steady hand, and apparently a little patience, too.

While assembling, I also secured a small back pocket to the purse using the same double-sided tape method. It's a quick extra step that adds a big payoff: the finished favor doubles as a gift card holder, perfect for slipping in a little something extra for the guest of honor.

Keep any adhesive on the paper parts rather than on the candy itself. The chocolate can stay in its original wrapper, ready to be slipped into the finished favor.

4. Add the Silver Chain Handle

For the final accessory moment, I picked up chain-link trim at Hobby Lobby and used it as the purse’s silver handle. It’s the detail that makes the favor read like a tiny shoulder bag, and it pairs beautifully with the black quilted pattern.

Because the construction method for attaching the chain can vary with your design, use a method that suits your paper layers and holds the handle securely. Make one complete sample before assembling the rest, so you can check how the finished purse hangs and feels.

5. Finish with the Chocolate and Gift Card

When the purse is assembled, add the Hershey bar and tuck a gift card into the back pocket. I like to wrap the candy bar in an aluminum foil wrap first so it stays polished and protected inside the purse. That extra pocket is a sweet little bonus: it makes this favor feel more like a thoughtful mini-gift than a piece of candy on a place setting.

The Finished Favor: Small, Sweet, and Ready to Gift

The result is a black quilted designer-inspired candy bar purse with a silver chain and a useful pocket for a gift card. It’s compact enough to sit at each place setting, but detailed enough to catch a guest’s eye. Add it to a holiday table, a fashion-themed celebration, or a party favor display that could use one more touch of sparkle.

My purse was also part of a larger coordinated collection, alongside tissue box covers, Hershey Kiss favor boxes, and lip balm holders. When your favors share a consistent color palette and style, the whole display feels thoughtfully put together, without needing to rent a ballroom or hire a tiny event-planning committee.

A Few Helpful Tips Before You Make a Batch

  • Make a prototype first. Print, cut, and assemble one purse before preparing favors for a crowd.
  • Check the fit with your candy bar. Chocolate-bar sizes and wrapper shapes can vary, so test your design before batch cutting.
  • Keep the chocolate wrapped. The paper purse is a decorative favor holder, not food packaging.
  • Customize the details. Try a new color scheme, an original pattern, or a personalized gift card pocket to suit your event.
  • Choose your own artwork. If you’re making a similar project, original designs and non-branded embellishments are a great way to give it your personal touch.
